Streamlike™ Video is the next generation in Flash video content management & webcasting

Streamlike™ Audio is a secured streaming method for playing MP3s

The Streamlike™ administrative console

Here is a guided tour of the back office administrative console of the Streamlike™ Media management system.

Let’s suppose we have encoded a movie to the Flash Video Format using common third party software. We have created three files encoded at three different bitrates that will be served to our viewers according to their available bandwidth.

If we log in with an admin account, we will see more options than ordinary users would see, such as the creation of new user accounts and custom skins for the audio and video players.

In the Streamlike console, we select "add media", give some general information about the movie, then click "next" to select the files that will be uploaded to the Streamlike server.

Here is how simple the navigation menu looks:

Entering the edit mode, we first need to select a status and decide if the audience and the total bandwidth usage should be measured. Next, we select a skin from the available choices in the drop-down box. We will see later how to create new skins.

The first entry zone in the "Files" section is only to be used for uploading files that need to be converted to the FLV format. This service will be charged based on the duration of the movie. If you have the tools to encode your movies, you will not need to use this service.

The following three entry zones are used for the selection of the FLV source files on your local computer or network. You can either select one file per bit rate or assign one file to several bit rates. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of the bandwidth detection by offering three FLV files, one for each bandwidth range. In any case, one video file must be assigned to each of the three bandwidth ranges. Click the "upload" button to transfer your FLV to the Streamlike™ server.

The cover picture is a JPG that will appear in the video player before your video starts. It must have the same dimensions as your video. Without a cover picture, the image that will appear in the player before the video is started is the first image of your movie.

The XML file is the chapter index for your video, if it has one.

The last section is to prevent access to your media from unauthorized websites. Only the referrers referenced in this section will be able to display your contents.

If you do not indicate a restriction, then any website will be able to reference your media by copying and pasting the html code found on your pages. Note that the video will remain embedded into your Streamlike™ player, and no access to the source file will be possible. No viewing will be lost and the audience measurement will work from any location.

If you wish to extend the reach of your media without sharing your copyrighted source files, and at the same time keep control of the stats, you only have to release a few lines of html code and remove any referrer restriction.

Let’s go back to the media list and preview our Streamlike™ movie in the player associated with the skin we selected.

The html code in the grey boxes contains the secured IDs for both your players and your media. Just copy and paste this information into your web page or your CMS and your Streamlike™ media is ready.

Now let’s create a custom player from the "add skin" tab in the left menu. Any of the preset colors can be changed by making a selection from the color palette and applying it to the element. Save your skin to preview your custom player and make as many adjustments as you wish until you are satisfied with the result.

Now that we have published our media, let’s have a look at the stats console.

Click the "stats" button of a movie that has been exposed to your public. The graph chart shows you the amount of viewing on a second-by-second basis for the three levels of bandwidth. In other words, the Y-axis indicates how many times each second of your media was viewed. Note that the same viewer may have watched the same segment several times. This graph gives you an instant view of what parts of your movie are most popular.

Playing the video will move the cursor to the corresponding position on the graph without affecting the audience measure. No track is kept of the viewing made from this screen. However, any viewing of your online media will be immediately reflected on the graph in real time. All you need to do is simply refresh the page to get an updated view of your ratings.

You can now see how simple, but powerful Streamlike™ is.

If you want the next generation in secured streaming technology on your own Streamlike™ server, please give us a call and we’ll be happy to help you build the solution that best meets your needs.
