Macromedia Flash currently reaches 99% of all Internet-enabled PCs. The closest contender is Windows Media while QuickTime and RealOne are far behind.
If you need a universal video format, your only choice is Flash. Any other choice would require multiple versions (e.g. Windows Media + QuickTime) to address the compatibility issue.
The latest version of the Flash Player offers a better image quality, a better compression rate, and H264 decoding. Depending on your target audience, you may want your videos to be compatible with the newer Flash Player (Version 10) or with the more widespread older versions
